Immolating Ovens, the Xun

Originating from the Far East, the Xun family began with a man's mingling with a fellow Soulborn, who'd come to harness the ability to 'tug' souls along with her Soul Weapon. She was friendless at first due to the ghastly nature of her abilities, but had been befriended by him. Nestling down in the emptiness of the vast array of nothing but small settlements, their patriarch would construct a place to call home - making a fortune from his prodigal talents in creation, and defending the growing hearth from the likes of bandits & enemy Soulborn. On the rare occasion that he was unable to handle things himself, the growing band of people under him would do it in his stead.


Since their founding they have only become more popular across the Soul Plains; despite being the youngest family and having the youngest patriarch, they are a formidable force to be reckoned and are highly respected among most Soulborn. Alongside the Lu, they are the only family that is actively somewhat feared for their capabilities.

Boisterous, loud, and proud, the Xun are a family of individuals who lean into chance-taking and spreading whatever they get from it. Things such as gambling, opting for dangerous engagements & so forth are never off the table for them despite their roots in smithing. They are the only esteemed background in the Soul Plains to have managed to mix both fighting & crafting into one, and while they aren't the best at the latter, they compensate for the abilities that they developed to aid them in both categories. They are the leaders of the City of Sparkles.


Kind but impulsive. Caring of others but abrasive. Xun are walking 'crash dummies', defined by their willingness to act at a moment's notice and heed what their mind presents them rather than what their gut does. They are the opposite to Lu despite behaving so similarly to them and are prone to jumping at the slightest sign of provocation or conflict. They tend to 'dance around' their opponents and generally play to thrill those they bout against, to spread their desire for danger to their adversary(ies).

Lu (MAX): Like long-lost brethren. Xun tend to aid them in going on expeditions to find, fight & interact with beasts. Their Heads tend to mingle with one another and fight for fun, having shared 67 duels and always coming to a stalemate. Marriages are frequent between these two families, friendships even more so. Lu seldom try to kill members of this family and see them as great rivals instead.
Park (Neutral): Tend to create gadgets & other crafts for the Park to experiment with and utilize. They're a reliable trade partner to the Park. Recently created the 'incendiary tag' for them.
Toyotomi (Dislike): Find the Xun very odd.
Wang Clan (HATE): Should've rolled over and died.

City of Sparkles (VERY HIGH): They founded the city and continue to support it to this day.
Den of Stalkers (High): No one knows why, but these are the only people that the Den is said to 'help'.
Fun Fun Flare Co. (Like): Competitors in making flares & incendiaries. The company was founded a century ago due to an heir to the Xun family rejecting the founder's hand in marriage. Despite this, it seems that the 'rivalry' is more friendly than anything.
Towns (Neutral): Some of the smaller settlements cannot stand these guys. Some like them. It is a 50/50.

Golds, oranges, reds and blacks are this family's go-to when it comes to any form of clothing, be it formal or casual. Xun lack any particular clothing style or scheme to them, though they prefer their members to wear things that pay homage to Huaren culture. It isn't difficult to spot them ornamenting themselves with 'excess' in terms of wear, be it a hair accessory; they are particularly preferential of things such as fans, be they gunbai, handheld folding fans, or even a strange gadget they've made for themselves. These individuals tend to have some degree of red, orange, or gold tipping the ends of their otherwise normally-colored hair, with similar colors typically reflecting in their irises. Older Soulborn hailing from the Xun have been shown to get darker skin tones as they get later in their years, and tend to grow taller & denser in muscle mass as well, though this isn't something shared by all of them.

Little has been viewed regarding their upper echelon of might beyond their leader, who's shown draconic features such as scales.

Unresting Stress Test: One of the few families who spreads the influence of influencing one's entire physique directly, the Xun prioritize resilience - but not to the extent that they are incapable of being unharmed. As they are invigorated, excited & battered they only enhance themselves gradually, growing in the potency of their blows and what blows they can bear as combat ensues until they are 'as weathered as stone but as durable as a boulder'. They boast the uncanny ability to 'harden' their physicality in flesh & musculature alike, not dissimilar to those bearing earth or mineral-based affinities, albeit without the lean into the element directly.
Dragon Engine: These individuals are known for their potent reiatsu that sears with intense heat at all times. It only grows stronger as combat rages on, and is nurtured by their earth-enriched forms to an extent that they become more resemblant of a furnace. Their demonstrations of Projection with the Dragon Engine have been shown to vaguely tangibilize this quality into a semi-solid auric externalization, dubbed the Flowing Vermillion Scales.
